| Notes for Robert REYNOLDS I |
| Buried : Berlin Cemetery Ellendale, Minnesota Career in Tailoring . Imm igrated in 1831 to New York City, New York . On 17 May 1814 Stephen Reynolds I I made his last will and testament in which his property was to be divided equa lly between his three sons after the death of his wife . This was breaking the tradition of leaving all of the property to the eldest son. As far as Robert wa s concerned, he apparently never knew of this will and left England for the Uni ted States and never claimed his inheritance, thus it reverted to the Crown . ( At the present time it is not known if Stephen and James claimed their inherita nce ) . One of the brothers died in Nottingham, England before 1871 and no forw arding address was known . Robert studied tailoring and became tailor to the King of England ( George IV) who was of fine appearance and always dressed int he height of fashion and was therefore sometimes very unworthy called " The Fir st Gentleman in Europe" , since he took little part in the government and wason e of the sovereigns of whom England can be least proud. The King died in 1830. Robert Reynolds Sr. came from England to the U.S. in 1831 at the age of29 Years and started a tailor shop near the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City .On 2 8 October 1834 he married Frances Anderson who was born 22 April 1814 in New Y ork City. |
