| Frances was a most aristocratic lady and had a great flair for hats and eitherw orked in a millinery shop or had one of her own when she met Robert. They start ed moving westward, probably in a covered wagon, and had reached Bunton Falls, New Jersey when Frances was born on 23 November 1835 . Then on to Pittsburgh,Pa . where Robert II was born on 7 September1837 and Henry was born on 28 February 1840 . Both boys died in the winter of 1840, Robert in January and Henry inApr il . After the birth of Robert Henry on 12 June 1842, the family moved farther west and settled for a few years in Waukash, Wisconsin where it is believedthat Louisa Sophia was born 28 October 1845 and Charles Wesley was born on 16March 1848 . As of now it is not known whether William James born July 18, 1850 was at Waukasha, Wisconsin or at Rippon, Wisconsin which was the birth place of Geo rge Edgar on 15 April 1851 . From there they came to Steele County, Minnesota a nd was one of the early settlers in 1856 . The following land deals were tak en from the records at the Steele County Court House at Owatonna, Minnesota. 10/ 26/ 1860 Robert Reynolds Sr. homesteaded S 1/2 of SE 1/4 ( 80 acres) 09/ 22/1868 Sold to Charles Steele S 1/2 of SE 1/4 of Sec. 23 09/22/ 1868 Charles Steele to Dudley Chase 09/22/ 1868 Dudley Chase to Thomas Marshall 01/31/187 0 Thomas Marshall to Robert Reynolds 04/16/1870 Robert Reynolds to Charles Ste ele 02/02/1873 US to Robert Reynolds NE 1/4 of SE 1/4 02/27/1878 Robert Reyno lds to Magus Segerberg Robert Reynolds Sr : established a residence on the h omestead and started farming .Louise was her fathers favorite. Her coloring was very fair and she had blue eyes like her father . Some of the other children, especially Frances and Robert II. had the fine features and very black sparkli ng eyes which must have been inherited form their mother. One wintershortly after the family was settled in their new home Robert Sr. took Louise and spen t several weeks visiting the Stearn family in Waseca County which joinsSteele C ounty on the west. The Stearns family were former friends from the east . Befor e leaving, the father and the mother apparently had some differences and the fa ther in his anger took the flour and sugar and hung it high up in a tree but so on after they left the boys got it down and the family ate a special treat of biscuits for supper . Robert Sr. was a very religious man and participated in the surrounding prayer meetings, often driving or walking as far as Bloomin g Prairie which is located about 10 miles east of their home. Roberts wif e Frances died 16 May 1860 and is buried in the Berlin Cemetery whichis across the road from their property . Louise took over the household dutiesafter her mothers death as Frances was working at the Owatonna House, a hotel in Owatonna , Minnesota. 14 August 1862 Robert Jr. enlisted in the Civil Was and was m ustered into the US Service at Fort Snelling 10 October 1862 as a private in Co mpany E 10th Regiment, Minnesota Volunteer Infantry and served threeyears . He was honorably discharged at Fort Snelling as a Corporal . During the last of th e Civil Was Charles enlisted and served in the area around New Orleans . By this time both Frances and Louise were married and lived in Steele County . Wil liam and George were home and helped with the farming . |
